| The Baroque Garden
Subjugate nature to human will!
In the 17th century, France was ruled by Louis XIV. and reached a high level
of prosperity. This constributed to the fact that many great artists of that
time came to create gardens with unlimited imagination. Versailles became the
admired example that promoted this new style of garden design. The most
beautiful elements were the arabesques, similiar to those used in contemporary
embroidery. Beds shaped like ornaments were framed by small box hetches. The
spaces between them were filled with white gravel, creating a wonderful
contrast. The basic shape was alweays formed by lawn. To make the whole
arrangement look just perfect, colorful dots of summer flowers were placed
in-between, giving the bed a pleasantly vivid touch.
