| As early as in the 16th century, important gardens were created at
Herberstein. Their heyday was in the 18th and the 19th century. After that time,
they were neglected for economic reasons. Only the rising number of visitors
during the past years allowed us to reconstruct this garden in 1997, according
to an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer (1681). Today it appears more splendid
than ever before. The historical rose varieties and the sweet scent of the most
beautiful flowers and plants create four differently colored areas - green,
white, blue and yellow - to symbolize four human
characteristics. |
