13th century
The oldest part of today´s castle is the two-story palace (stone house) and the soaring keep. These buildings date from the early 12th century and were acquired by the Herberstein family in 1290.
14th century
Spacious extensions to the East.

Modern age-style extension of the South and North wing.
17th century
Knight hall wing, "Florentinerhof" (Florentine courtyard) and the magnificent main portal.
